How to Vote by Mail in New York

Any registered New York voter may request a mail ballot β€” no excuse required. Here's how it works:

Apply online at the NY Board of Elections website. Deadline is 13 days before the election (or in person up to 1 day before).

Receive Your Ballot

Your ballot will be mailed to your registered address. You can also pick one up in person at the Board of Elections.

Mark Your Ballot

Follow the instructions carefully. Use the inner secrecy envelope and the outer return envelope provided.

Return Your Ballot

Mail it back (must be postmarked by Election Day) or drop it off at your county Board of Elections or any poll site on Election Day.

How do I register to vote? +

Register online at elections.ny.gov, by mail, or in person at the Oneida County Board of Elections. The deadline is 25 days before the general election and June 13 for the 2026 primary.

Can I vote in the primary if I'm not enrolled in a party? +

Only voters enrolled in a party may vote in that party's primary. To vote in the Democratic primary, you must be enrolled as a Democrat. The party enrollment deadline for the June 2026 primary was February 14, 2026. All registered voters, regardless of party, may vote in the General Election.
